A great herbaceous plant , a must in every garden

While easy from seed it is difficult to grow continuously as it requires an open soil and little competition.

This species is fast disappearing.

 
Management: Long Lived on Eskers and Alkaline soils.  Keep fertility poor, likes open grassland, Does not require cutting. RARE species
Tolerance of cutting Poor, except end of season management
Cutting time: None, end of season

Edible / Medicinal: Do not consume unless advised. Probably contain poisons

Species Common Name:  Greater Trefoil
Species Botanical Name:  Lotus uliginosus

A wonderful species, unknown by many and confused with Birdsfoot Trefoil.  Greater Trefoil will form large colourful blocks in a damp meadow, brilliant on roadsides, sadly it does not produce much seed and we sell it as Planteens or plants.  A great ground cover species

Tolerance of cutting High, will re-flower, can grow uncut for many years
Cutting time: any time, as ground cover, cut in June.
